Focal Systems, a US-based retail automation startup, has expanded into the UK market, joining the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and opening its first European office. The company, which has raised over $40 million in VC funding, aims to help UK retailers improve margins, sustainability, and customer service with its AI-powered Self Driving Store Operating System (FocalOS). Focal’s technology addresses labor and supply chain challenges faced by UK retailers, offering automation solutions that enhance product availability, reduce costs, and boost profitability.
Focal’s AI solution, which uses computer vision cameras for out-of-stock detection, is already being deployed in Walmart Canada after a successful pilot. The system integrates with existing inventory systems, enabling real-time monitoring and replenishment of stock in key departments. Focal is nominated for the 2022 RTIH Innovation Awards for its supply chain innovation, showcasing the increasing importance of AI in retail.
